Ancient methods of dyeing eggs for Easter?

1:961

Initially, on the Easter holiday, which coincided with the pagan holiday of spring, dedicated to the sun god Yarila, eggs were painted only in ardent, or red color. At the same time, the ancient Slavs knew many ways to dye eggs in other colors. Modern technologies have made their own adjustments to the methods of staining and have opened up new possibilities. But you can get by with the old folk methods of coloring eggs without paint and chemistry! A little imagination and your Easter table will look unique!

1. Coloring eggs in onion skins

Onion peel is probably the most common and well-known way of dyeing Easter eggs, and the color scheme is the most diverse: from yellowish to dark blue. It all depends not only on the concentration of the broth, but also on the color of the husk itself.

3:1608

Usually the husks begin to be collected in a few weeks: the amount of it depends on the saturation of the desired color. You can also mix different types of husks: from white, red and ordinary onions, then the shades will turn out to be the most unexpected.

There are two ways to color such eggs. - boil them in onion broth or leave already hard-boiled eggs overnight (accordingly, the intensity of the shade will be different).

2. Coloring eggs in leafy and herbal decoctions, in tea

Decoctions of birch leaves, apple leaves, chamomile, nettle, etc. are ideal for coloring eggs. You can also color eggs in tea: green, black and hibiscus (Sudanese rose). It is enough just to boil the eggs in a tea solution.

Preparing eggs for dyeing

9:771

There are many ways how to paint eggs for easter. However, regardless of the option chosen, the eggs must be properly prepared.

9:1041 9:1051

Here are some tips:

9:1099
  • an hour before dyeing, you should take the eggs out of the refrigerator so that they take room temperature. In this case, they will not burst during cooking. The same result can be achieved by piercing the egg with a thin, sharp needle;
  • in order for the paint to lie more evenly, the eggs must be thoroughly washed. Color uniformity can also be achieved by wiping the eggs with soapy water or alcohol;
  • colored eggs will acquire a shiny appearance if, after painting, wipe them dry and rub with vegetable oil.

Since ancient times, the egg has symbolized life. On the eve of the holiday, usually on Thursday, it is customary to paint and / or paint eggs. It turns out, respectively, krashanki or pysanky. These colored eggs are one of the main symbols of Easter. On Easter Sunday and the week following it, children exchange such decorated eggs, give them to their godparents, and also compete to see whose egg is stronger. It is believed that each blow helps to break the tomb of Jesus Christ and bring his Resurrection closer. The one who wins gets all the "defeated" krashenki.

The technology for making Easter eggs is quite complicated and not everyone can do it. To decorate the egg in this way, a wax drawing is applied with a thin scribe, the egg is dipped into the paint, then the wax is applied again and so on several times. The applied paint alternately changes from light tones to dark. Then, the wax is melted with a candle flame and the pysanka is ready. As you can see, making Easter eggs is not so easy, and not every housewife today will take on such a delicate matter.

Dyeing eggs and getting krashenki is much easier, but like any other thing, painting eggs for Easter has its own secrets and subtleties. Therefore, consider how to paint eggs correctly.

There are two ways to make dyes. The first is that raw eggs are boiled in a decoction of natural food coloring. In the second method, the eggs are first boiled and then placed in hot dye. The duration of the coloring depends on how “strong” the dye is and what shade of color you want to get as a result. Additional boiling in a coloring solution over low heat is allowed.

Traditionally, Easter eggs are used to paint. Depending on the onion variety, the saturation of the decoction and the exposure time, you can get krashanki from light yellow to red-brown.

Painting eggs in other colors occurs with the help of others. So, the green color is obtained using the leaves of periwinkle, birch, nettle or spinach; yellow - from turmeric, apple bark or marigold flowers; pink - from beetroot juice or infusion of hibiscus; blue - from the juice of purple cabbage, brown or black - from the shell of walnuts, alder or oak bark. If you take the husk of a red onion, then the color of the dyed egg will be purple.

Coloring eggs for Easter will be easy and successful if you know a few secrets.

In order for the paint to lay down evenly, before staining, you need to soak the eggs in lukewarm water for 10 minutes, then rinse with a soapy sponge and rinse well under running warm water.

So that the shell does not crack during boiling, when starting to boil, you need to keep the eggs at room temperature for at least an hour, and when boiling, add salt to the container with water.

To make the color of dyed eggs more saturated, add a little vinegar to the dye solution (2 tablespoons per 250 ml of liquid). The acid will slightly corrode the shell, making it more porous, which will facilitate the penetration of dyes into it.

It is better to dry colored eggs on paper napkins. This way you can avoid ugly streaks.

After painting the eggs is finished, dry eggs are smeared with sunflower oil using a silicone brush. This procedure gives brightness and shine.

You can try to give the paints different unusual effects. For example, if you wrap an egg with a thick thread before dyeing, it will turn out to be striped.

Sprinkled with semolina and wrapped in a piece of wide bandage - it will be speckled.

Overlaid with small onion peel and pieces of paper will give a marble effect.

And if you stick beautiful leaves, flowers or twigs to the shell, tie them with gauze and cook in the dye, the pattern will appear on the krashanka.

In addition to natural, today there is a great variety of synthetic food colors in rich bright colors. To create Easter compositions, wreaths and bouquets of krashanok, you can use them. By combining painting with various commercially available stickers, you can easily and easily make beautiful painted eggs. You can also simply “dress” the eggs in colorful plastic clothes.

But it’s better not to be lazy and try, together with your children, to paint eggs for Easter with your own hands using natural dyes and our advice, as our grandmothers and great-grandmothers have done for many centuries in a row. Such dyes will bring prosperity, prosperity, love and a new happy life to your home.

Preparing for Easter, every housewife must paint eggs. Where did this tradition come from and why are eggs painted on Easter?

Legend has it that for the first time Mary Magdalene gave a painted egg to the emperor of Rome for Easter. But this egg was not simple, it was painted red, symbolizing the blood that Christ shed in the name of mankind. On the scarlet egg, only two symbols of H.V. were inscribed, which meant Christ is Risen! It was from that very egg that the custom of painting eggs for Easter began.

How to color eggs for Easter? Myths and reality.

The most common way to color eggs is with food coloring. Fast, convenient, but not always safe for health, especially if the dye is purchased from the hands. The safest method is dyeing eggs with natural dyes. There are many different methods described on the Internet, but not all of them are effective.

Below I will describe my experiments, how you can really color eggs and what methods are a waste of time.

How to dye eggs with onion skins

Even our grandmothers and great-grandmothers dyed eggs with onion peel, modern women also prefer this method.

Coloring eggs with onion skins:
- We collect onion peel in advance. The more onion skins we have, the better.
- Fill the husk with water and put on fire. Cook covered over low heat for at least half an hour. For color intensity, you can boil longer.
- Cool the broth, filter. You can prepare onion broth in advance.
- We take raw eggs, fill them with a decoction of onion peel so that they are completely covered with natural paint.
- Boil the eggs as usual for 7-10 minutes. Cooking longer is not advisable, because with prolonged heat treatment, eggs lose their beneficial nutritional properties.
- Boiled eggs of a beautiful orange color are laid out on a plate. When the eggs have cooled, rub them with vegetable oil to shine.

Benefits of dyeing eggs with onion skins: absolutely harmless to the body. In this way, eggs can be dyed from light yellow to intense red-brown. The saturation of the color depends on the concentration of the decoction. The decoction of onion peel itself is prepared very simply.

Flaws: not known.

Conclusion: The method works, it is cheap and reliable.

P.S. I like to experiment, to check everything on my own experience. So I decided to dye the eggs with blue onions, it is also called Crimean, it has a blue-violet husk. I expected the eggs to turn blue or purple, but as the experiment showed, the eggs turned brown with a slight purple tint. So, I think it’s better to paint eggs for Easter with an ordinary onion, although ... for a change, you can also use blue))))

How to dye eggs with coffee

To be honest, I doubted whether coffee eggs could be dyed. As it turned out, yes, you can, and it turns out very well. So, I'm telling you how to paint eggs in this way.

Coloring eggs with natural coffee:
- Pour natural ground coffee into a saucepan, fill with water. For a glass of water, I took 4 teaspoons of coffee with a slide. For a more intense color, you can take more.
- Bring the coffee to a boil, reduce the heat so that it does not boil away and cook for 10 minutes over low heat.
- Strain the coffee and let it cool down.
- Pour the cooled coffee over the eggs. The coffee should completely cover the eggs. We put on fire.
- Boil the eggs over low heat for 7-10 minutes.
- Carefully remove, put on a plate with a napkin. Thanks to the napkin, which quickly absorbs moisture, dark spots do not form on the bottom of the eggs.

Benefits of dyeing coffee eggs: natural, completely harmless dye. Eggs can be dyed from light coffee to dark coffee, depending on the saturation of the solution.

Flaws: much more expensive than onion skins.

Conclusion: the method works, the coffee extract lays down quite evenly. Experimented with instant coffee. It also works, but not such a beautiful and even color.

How to dye eggs with chokeberry juice

I read about the fact that Easter eggs can be painted with berry juice on the Internet, and I immediately wanted to check this method to see if it really works. And I started with chokeberry.

Coloring eggs with juice:
- We take out frozen chokeberry berries from the freezer. Defrost.
- Press the rowan with a fork to release the juice from the berries.
- Pour raw eggs with water, add crushed fruits of chokeberry. The liquid should completely cover the eggs.
- Hard boil eggs. At the same time, rowan berries color the water in a dark lilac color. Eggs take paint weakly.
- Put the boiled eggs on a plate. As you can see in the photo, the eggs are blue-lilac in color.

Advantages: natural way, completely harmless.

Flaws: weak and uneven coloration. If cracks appear during cooking, then the protein also turns blue, it turns out not very appetizing. It is better to prepare the most useful chokeberry tincture from berries.

Conclusion: You can dye eggs with chokeberry juice. True, blue-violet eggs with awesome streaks are more suitable for Halloweenthan Easter.

Despite the not very good result of painting eggs with chokeberry juice, I still did not lose heart and decided to experiment with blackberries. And, lo and behold, everything worked out!

Coloring eggs with blackberry juice:
- Since the summer we freeze blackberries. On the eve of Easter, we take out the blackberries from the freezer. Defrost.
- We press the blackberry with a fork, then fill it with water and cook for 15-20 minutes. For every 200 ml. water I took a hundred grams of blackberries.
- Strain the broth, cool.
- Degrease the eggs before painting. Boil eggs in blackberry juice.
- Carefully remove the cooked eggs. We make sure that there are no smudges on the eggs, because the blackberry juice continues to color the eggs even after cooking.
- To get the stripes on the egg, pour some juice into the egg holder, carefully place the egg itself and leave it for a few minutes. Then reduce the liquid level and repeat the operation again.

Advantages: a natural way of dyeing eggs, completely harmless.

Flaws: quite difficult to achieve a uniform coating.

Conclusion: blackberries perfectly paint eggs, allows you to create interesting effects.

How to dye eggs with beet juice

From personal experience, everyone knows that beetroot colors meat, potatoes, and eggs in borscht. Therefore, it is quite logical to assume that beetroot juice is suitable for painting eggs for Easter. Is it so? Judge for yourself.

Coloring eggs with beetroot juice:
- Take one large beetroot or several small ones. Choose dark roots.
- Peel off the skin. We cut into plates or straws.
- Cook the beets in a small amount of water to get a rich beet fat.
- We filter the broth, cool.
- Wash raw eggs thoroughly, you can use dish soap.
- Boil the eggs in beetroot broth for 10 minutes, then put the eggs on a plate.

Advantages: relatively cheap. You can dye eggs in borscht)))

Flaws: the eggs are pale.

Conclusion: the result does not live up to expectations.

Can you dye eggs with cherry juice?

I heard about this method of painting eggs for Easter for a long time, I wanted to try everything, but there was no fresh cherry. This year, I froze cherries on purpose to conduct an experiment.

Dyeing eggs with cherry juice:
- We get frozen cherries from the freezer. Defrost. I took 12 cherries for each egg.
- We crush the defrosted cherries with a fork, remove the seeds.
- We take raw eggs, fill them with water, add juice and cherry pulp. We make sure that the liquid level is above the level of the eggs.
- Hard boil eggs. Despite the bright color of the compote, the eggs are painted very weakly.
- We remove the finished eggs from hot water, cool.

Advantages: natural ingredients.

Flaws: Eggs are practically not painted.

Conclusion: the result is unstable, depending on the variety and ripeness of the cherries. It is better to cook cherry jam or delicious compote from cherries, and paint the eggs with onion peel.

  • According to church traditions, Easter eggs are painted only on Maundy Thursday, this is the last Thursday before the great holiday.
  • To prevent the eggs from bursting during cooking, you must do the following. Take the eggs out of the fridge for an hour or more to bring them to room temperature. Add one tablespoon of salt to the water. We put the eggs in water at room temperature, and then put on fire.
  • To make the paint on the eggs lie more evenly, before painting, degrease the surface of the eggs with vodka or wash the eggs with soapy water. To make the eggs shine and the colors more intense, rub the eggs with sunflower oil the next day after painting.
  • How to make a pattern on eggs

There is an opinion that if you wrap the eggs with thick knitting threads, braid, or simply attach a flower or parsley leaf, then wrap the egg in cheesecloth and boil it in dye, you will get a beautiful painted egg.

Honestly, not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. The paint quickly soaks the threads and fabric, coloring the egg. Leaves and flowers also depart, skipping paint. Perhaps the one hundred and twenty-fifth attempt will be successful, but usually there is no time for experiments before Easter. Therefore, to make a print on the egg, we use strong electrical tape that sticks well.

    How to make a print:
    - Degrease the surface of the eggs.
    - To get a picture, we sculpt pieces of electrical tape on the egg. Carefully press the tape so that the edges stick properly.
    - Boil eggs in dye. Onion skins or coffee give a good result.
    - Remove hard-boiled eggs from hot water and place on a plate.
    - When the eggs are cool, remove the stickers.

Meanings of symbols on Easter eggs

    Pine symbolizes health
Oak leaf or oak tree symbolizes strength
    Any berries symbolize fertility
    Plum symbolizes love
    Hop cones symbolize fertility
Flowers - a symbol of girlhood
The mesh on the Easter egg is a symbol of fate
Yellow mesh - a symbol of the sun
Dots - fertility. And the more points, the more fertility

When painting eggs, you can come up with your own drawings and patterns, and it is important to do this with joy and an open mind, because Easter eggs are not just a tradition, they are a symbol that conveys our emotions, energy and wishes.

    Original Easter eggs

Eggs can be painted by hand. When my son was still small, we painted eggs with honey watercolors. Yes, with this method, the drawing does not last long and loses its shape when wet, but how much joy the child has)))
Also, for painting eggs, you can use school gouache, which has been tested for safety for children.

Eggs can not only be dyed, they can be wrapped in colored foil or appliquéd using plain colored paper. Colored confetti are great for this.

Since ancient times, people have exchanged eggs and Easter cakes for the Easter holiday. The tradition has evolved over the years, resulting in many ways to color and decorate paraphernalia. With the words "Christ is risen!" men and women, children and older generations exchange eggs, later looking at intricate patterns. Among other things, coloring eggs is a rather exciting process that can rally households. There are basic methods, we will consider them in more detail.

How to prepare eggs for painting

As mentioned earlier, experienced housewives, through trial and error, identified the main options for coloring eggs for Easter. However, regardless of the method chosen, they must first be prepared.

    1. Remove the eggs from the refrigerator a few hours before the intended coloring and leave at room temperature. Such a move will help to avoid temperature differences, due to which the shell cracks. An alternative is to pierce the shell with a thin sewing needle, which will prevent the eggs from bursting.
    2. If food pigments or onion peels are used as the main staining method, it is recommended to pre-wash the shell. To do this, use a kitchen sponge and baking soda. The end result is paint that will lie flat without streaks or spotty inclusions.
    3. Before starting the procedure, degrease the shell by wiping it with vodka or medical alcohol. If neither is available, treat the surface with soapy water, then rinse thoroughly and dry.
    4. To give the shell a gloss after painting, wipe the surface of the eggs with vegetable or corn oil. Do not use cotton pads for these purposes, gently soak your fingers in the composition, then spread over the shell.

When you have prepared the "material", start painting. Choose the best option for yourself, and then clearly follow the instructions.

    Method number 1. Food colorings

Food coloring is considered to be the most common type of Easter egg coloring. You can purchase ready-made colors or bring your own shades. Pigments can be pearly, glossy or matte, it all depends on the manufacturer.

To properly prepare the composition, take care of such a number of containers in advance that each color has a separate bowl. Dilute the paint with water at room temperature, there should be a lot of liquid so that the eggs completely drown in it.

After diluting the paint, pour in 30 ml. table vinegar solution, then send boiled or raw eggs to the bowl. The exposure time varies, it all depends on how intense the shade you want to get.

    Stencil

    1. Purchase tracing paper - ultra-thin paper - online or at a stationery store. Cut out any image from it in the form of a stencil (the inner part is extracted). Anything is suitable as a drawing: favorite cartoon characters, Easter theme, Jesus Christ, etc.
    2. A picture for a stencil can be downloaded from the Internet. The final result depends on the quality of the original image and the material itself. When you have made a stencil base, namely printed and cut it out, soak the paper in water at room temperature. The material should become elastic, repeating the shape of the egg.
    3. Attach the stencil to the shell, smooth out the creases. If your drawing is small, duplicate it in several places. Fix the stencil with gauze or a piece of nylon stockings (tights).
    4. Dilute food or natural dye, send eggs into it and cook them until cooked. At the end of the procedure, remove the eggs, put them on toothpicks or newspaper, cool to room temperature. As soon as this happens, remove the gauze and stencil, enjoy the result.

    Vegetable oil

    1. A beautiful result is achieved by coloring eggs with the addition of vegetable oil. To perform the procedure correctly, prepare two containers with the same shade. Pour oil into the first, and leave the second unchanged.
    2. Boil hard-boiled eggs, cool to a temperature of 30 degrees (the coloring composition should have the same indicator). Dip the "material" into a bowl of paint, wait for the required interval (the exact time is indicated in the instructions).
    3. After that, remove the eggs, leave the paint to dry. When this happens, send the product to the second container with vegetable oil, again wait for the time. Dry the eggs, evaluate the result.

    Insulating tape

    1. Cut the tape lengthwise to make thin strips (you can skip this step if you like). Prepare several containers of diluted paint, preferably blue and yellow.
    2. Glue the strip in the form of a spiral or any other pattern of your choice. Dip the eggs in a bowl with blue, wait a while, remove and wait for drying. Remove the tape.
    3. Now glue the next strips, which will slightly cover the previously obtained pattern. Dip the egg in yellow paint, wait an interval, remove and dry.
    4. You will end up with a yellow egg with blue and green stripes. The option is good in that it allows you to experiment with obtaining new shades by applying one color to another.

    Stationery rubber bands

    1. Purchase rubber bands at the stationery store, which are usually used to tighten banknotes (silicone base). Hard boil eggs, cool, prepare paint of one or more shades.
    2. Then you can proceed in two ways. The first involves coloring the egg in any color with prominent white lines (gum bands are attached to a previously unpainted egg). The second option is two-phase coloring, as a result of which the lines are obtained in the color in which the egg was originally painted.
    3. Consider the second option, it is more complex. Dye the egg yellow, dry it. Wrap stationery rubber bands in a chaotic manner crosswise. Dip the "material" into the green paint, wait for the pigment to set. Dry, remove gum. You will see that the egg has turned blue with yellow stripes.

    plant leaves
The technique is similar to the stencil technique with only one clarification - the leaves of plants are used as a pattern, most often parsley and dill act in their role.

    1. To get an accurate result, tear off a few leaves, attach them to the shell, fix with gauze or a nylon stocking. Dip in the paint, wait a while.
    2. After the expiration date, remove the eggs, cool and dry them. Unfold the fixing material, remove the leaves, grease the surface with vegetable oil and enjoy the result.
    3. The same electrical tape, self-adhesive paper or adhesive tape can serve as an alternative to leaves. Cut out the pattern you need from the material, attach it to the defatted shell of a pre-cooked egg. Place the product in the pigment bowl, then remove and dry.

    Method number 2. natural dyes

    1. Onion peel, beets, turmeric, carrots, birch leaves, calendula, orange or lemon, spinach, red cabbage, nettle, coffee can act as natural dyes.
    2. The main feature of "folk" staining is considered to be that the composition acts slowly. As a rule, it takes about 8-10 hours to get the result.
    3. To prepare the solution, pour water into a saucepan and add a large amount of the chosen dye. Pour in 35 ml. table vinegar, stir. Bring the solution until the first bubbles appear, then reduce the power and boil for another 15 minutes.
    4. When the paint is ready, insist it for about half an hour, then send the eggs into the container and simmer them over low heat for 25 minutes. Then turn off the burner, leave the product in the solution overnight.

    Turmeric
To give eggs a seductive golden hue, use ground turmeric.

    1. Boil water in an enamel pan, pour 90 gr. turmeric, bring to a boil. Place raw eggs in a container, boil them until tender, then let them brew for another 8 hours without removing them.
    2. It is recommended to carry out the procedure with extreme caution, since it is quite difficult to remove turmeric from the surface of furniture and clothes, however, like other natural dyes.

    red cabbage
A decoction based on cabbage will give the eggs a rich blue tint.

    1. Grind a whole head of cabbage into small slices, place in a saucepan and pour boiling water over it. Add 180 ml. table vinegar solution, cover and leave for 10 hours.
    2. After the expiration date, send the eggs to the container, control the color intensity every 2 hours. Then remove the product and leave it to dry. If desired, paint the surface with gouache or felt-tip pens.

    Beet
Beetroot will help color the eggs in a raspberry or pinkish hue, it all depends on the length of time the product is kept in the solution.

    1. Grate 4 medium-sized beets, then mash the mixture with a potato masher or chop in a blender.
    2. Pour boiling water over the prepared mixture so that the water covers the beets completely. Pour in 150 ml. vinegar concentration of 9%, wait 6 hours.
    3. Put boiled eggs in a saucepan, let it brew for 5 hours. After the time has elapsed, remove the product, leave to dry.

    onion peel
Onion peel will color the eggs a red-brown hue with a bronze sheen.

    1. To prepare a coloring solution, you will need to take a husk from 4 kg. Luke. Raw materials must be sent to a large saucepan and pour boiling water.
    2. Put the container on the stove, bring the mass to a boil and simmer for 1 hour. After that, cover with a lid, leave to infuse for 24 hours.
    3. After the due date, pass the broth through a colander or cheesecloth, boil the eggs in it for about 10 minutes. Then do not remove the product from the pan, leave the liquid to cool completely.

Regardless of the chosen method of coloring, you can create patterns on Easter eggs using improvised materials.

    1. Boil round-grain or long-grain rice, soak an egg in water and roll it in rice to stick the grains. Tie with a stocking or gauze, fix on both sides with elastic bands.
    2. Prepare the coloring pigment, dip the eggs into it and wait the required period of time. For this method, natural dyes are better.
    3. When the eggs are colored, remove them and leave to dry completely. Remove the cloth, remove the rice, brush the surface of the shell with sunflower oil.

    Silk fabric
Eggs can be dyed with fabrics; silk or cotton with existing patterns is ideal for this purpose.

    1. Moisten the egg in hot water, wrap it with a piece of cloth so that the design fits snugly on the surface of the shell with the front side. Sew the egg with threads around the entire perimeter so that the fabric does not slip.
    2. Wrap with a piece of nylon, tie on both sides, creating a kind of candy. Pour 100 ml into an enamel saucepan. vinegar (6%), add water, send to the eggs. Boil them for about 15 minutes, then turn off the stove.
    3. Let the eggs stand in the solution for another quarter of an hour, then place them in a bowl of cold water and leave to cool completely. Carefully remove the retainer and stocking, evaluate the fruits of your labors.

First, prepare the eggs for painting: remove them from the refrigerator, leave them at room temperature, pierce a thin hole in the shell with a sewing needle. Consider coloring with food or natural dyes. Use a stencil, parsley leaves, silk fabric, or scrap materials to create a unique design.

Video: how to paint eggs for Easter (different ways)

Let's talk about dyeing Easter eggs today, shall we? Yes, yes, because before the bright holiday of Christ's Resurrection, there is very little left - a week and a half. And the first entry in the section of Easter recipes, I decided to make this one - in it I will talk about how I prepare eggs for the dyeing process.

Unfortunately, it is far from always possible to buy tasty, fresh, and clean eggs. And on the eve of Easter - especially. Including because another selection criterion appears - the white color of the shell. However, you can take the so-called "orange", but with them it will not be possible to achieve light shades.

Perhaps someone in bewilderment will say: "Why do we need any more preparation? I put it in the dye / husk and you're done!" I do not argue, it is possible and so. And I will not dissuade anyone if this approach seems reasonable and more appropriate. I will tell you about the reasons that prompt me to do those manipulations every time, which will be discussed later.

    With preparation, you can:

    Identify stale eggs before boiling;
    - paint eggs in any color (including onion skins), even in light yellow;
    - to provide a more uniform overlay of color when staining;
    - make eggs tastier (but here, as they say, the taste and color...)

So let's get started shall we?

All you need at this stage:

    • pot
    • laundry soap
    • sponge for food
    • vodka or alcohol
    • cotton pads

    My course of action:

So, these are not very pretty eggs I had available. Well, what to do - there was no cleaner in the store. Although, maybe that's a good thing. Indeed, by themselves, laid under normal conditions, eggs cannot be perfectly clean. And if they are washed, placed in containers and on store shelves, they will deteriorate much faster (to prevent this from happening, you need to boil them as soon as possible after washing). So... unwashed - and good!)

For all washing procedures, a kitchen sink is very convenient. So I plugged the hole with a cork, put in the eggs, and got the water at a pleasantly warm temperature.
At this stage, by the way, it is already possible to identify old eggs - stale ones will float, and normal ones will remain at the bottom.

I washed each egg with a sponge with laundry soap from external contaminants. Dropped the water.

The next step is more for removing the stamp on the eggs. And you can regard it as another stage of shell cleaning.
So, I took fresh warm water so that it only covered the eggs. She poured soda.

I stirred it in water and let the eggs lie in the soda solution for about 20 minutes.
Most of the stamps come off at this stage. You can help them again with a sponge and soda. But be careful, the eggs are fresh, with rough handling they can crack, besides, the white shell is more fragile than the "red" one.

If the stamps are still a little visible, as in my case, I see no point in being zealous here. With further cooking, they will completely disappear. Therefore, I simply transferred the eggs to a pan that was suitable in volume.

I added more salt so that the eggs do not crack during cooking.

Filled with water and sent to gas. Fire is small.
Boiling time depends on the number of eggs and taste preferences. Cook as usual, with the addition that the more eggs, the longer it will take.
We love "perepeki" - these are eggs that are boiled for a long time - 1-2 hours. They have a different taste. Some people like it, some don't. As a family, we really love the "perepechki". By the way, they also last longer. But we don't get them.)

I pour boiled eggs with cold water until it completely replaces the hot one. I leave the eggs in the water in a saucepan until completely cooled.

Then I spread it on a clean, dry towel and wait for the eggs to dry.

I prepare medical alcohol (you can use vodka) and cotton pads. In theory, discs can be replaced with cotton wool, but I like this option much less, since cotton wool can leave fibers.

I moisten the disk with alcohol and wipe each egg whole. It is this procedure that ensures that the paint (it does not matter whether it is a dye or a husk) evenly lies on the shell. True, there is one caveat - if any contamination (including litter) has been on the shell for a long time, then most likely it will leave some trace, which will still appear after staining. But if the shell is not pre-treated with alcohol, then this trace will be more pronounced.

Alcohol instantly evaporates from the surface of the shell. That's it, the eggs are ready to be painted!

However, I’ll also note separately that at the time of boiling and painting (regardless of whether it happens in one stage or in two, like mine), the eggs should be at room temperature. Pour in room water too. And cook/dye over low heat. Under all these conditions, not a single egg will crack!

Pre-boiling allows you to color the eggs with onion skins and in light colors. To do this, you need to lower the prepared boiled eggs into the onion broth and hold it there for only a few minutes. How much - depends on the concentration of the broth and the individual characteristics of the shell, so it is better to determine the time empirically - carefully remove the eggs with a colander spoon and see what shade it has at the moment. I will go into more detail about this in the next recipe;)
